Con approaches the woman even her own cousin has his doubts about this woman but the resemblance is uncanny! The woman is in fact Mary Grey from to Con she is a dream come true! Ivy does kill trees and hedges, exterminating every hedge plant until it wins the battle, then it falls over, taking the dead hedge with it, leaving you with no hedge at all. The Ivy Tree was one of my favorites, and my enjoyment increased on reading it again after 50+ years. Don't be fooled by the comparison to Agatha Christie and Barbara Pym in the blurb.

Stewart is a more literate writer than Christie, and Pym's novels are like delicate pastels in contrast to Stewart's complex, brilliantly colored oil paintings/5().

Let alone I read it for my British Literature class. It was great. The suspense just about killed me at the end. I just kept on turning the pages. She describes the scene and the characters so well that I felt like I was right there.

The Ivy Tree is Mary Stewart’s sixth novel, published in It is set in Hadrian’s Wall country (see here for information on Hadrian’s Wall), in Northumberland in the north of England.

Mary Grey is sitting quietly beside Hadrian’s Wall when Con Winslow approaches her, accusing her of being his cousin Annabel Winslow, a young woman who disappeared eight years previously. The Ivy Tree deviates from Mary Stewart’s classic gothic formula, but more than that would be a spoiler.

What I can say is that even though I saw the explanation coming way too early in the book, Mary Stewart is skillful enough that I kept second-guessing myself, right up until the moment my hunch was confirmed.

Tree ivy is a fun houseplant that has ivy-like leaves and an upright growth habit. It's actually something of an oddity in the plant world because tree ivy is actually a hybrid of two different kinds of plants (just like how a mule is a hybrid of a horse and donkey).

The ivy tree is a usual plant in that it's the result of a cross between two genera, the English ivy (Hedera) and Fatsia resulting hybrid has the Latin name of has the interesting and lovely leaf shape of the Fatsia, which can be seen growing along the roadsides throughout the tropical world, and the cultural requirements and basic climbing habit of its ivy parent.
